The writing on the wall

I love quotes. I love reading them. I love sharing them. I love copying them into my notebooks or onto notecards.

This is a passion I share with Raymond Carver.

He liked to write out quotes on index cards and tape them to the wall near his desk.

Over the years, I’ve taped several words of wisdom to my workstation. I have even photographed them and then pinned up the photograph.

This month I’m adding something else to the mix. A personal manifesto.

A declaration of intentions.

I always feel I have so much to achieve, yet so little time. It reminds me of this quote by Leo Tolstoy,

“Have a goal for your whole life, a goal for one section of your life, a goal for a shorter period and a goal for the year; a goal for every month, a goal for every week, a goal for every day, a goal for every hour and for, every minute, and sacrifice the lesser goal to the greater”.
